Simulation Based Medical Education Workshop for Advanced Clerkship Students enrolled in the Human Trafficking Elective at the VCU School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia.

Relationship Building During a Medical Encounter with a Potential or Actual Survivor of Human Trafficking: A Collaborative and Strengths-based Approach to Building Rapport

* This is a pilot program

There is very little curricular time in medical schools dedicated to teaching students on how to interact and communicate with patients in trauma-informed ways. This workshop aims to bridge this educational gap by providing students with a safe environment to practice how to obtain patient information using trauma-informed communication skills that empower versus re-victimize patients with histories of abuse, violence and exploitation, including human trafficking.
