Case studies depict realistic clinical scenarios that help us to frame questions for more rigorous study. Case studies have played an important part in the annals of general practice, and indeed, of clinical medicine.

Dr. Isaacs will guide students through a case study to increase understanding of the unique health needs of a labor trafficked patient and the trauma-infomed care required to help patients heal from physical and mental trauma.

Lee Frost, B.A., M.A.
Tuesday, Jan 9th , 1 - 4 PM

Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) is a recent addition to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) and expands upon the characterization of PTSD by including long-term abusive environments, emotional dysregulation, having a diminished and often fiercely negative view of oneself, and relational difficulties. According to The Lancet, it's estimated that it affects 1–8% of the population and has up to a 50% prevalence in mental health facilities. This disorder is frequently misdiagnosed and the connection to a multitude of medical conditions is often missed.

This session covers 3 topic areas:

- An overview of CPTSD and the medical problems that accompany it.

- Advice on working with patients living with complex trauma.

- Tips on teaching people how to manage it and how to create a safe and productive environment for education.
